Michael Savage Speaks Out on America’s Sadomasochistic Women

Media Matters for America hit my inbox yesterday, Monday, Dec. 8 with this jarring headline:

Savage: "[A]ny heterosexual woman today over the age of 25 who grew up in America is basically a dominatrix"

Just to be sure I knew what Savage was talking about I looked up ‘dominatrix’ in a handy online dictionary. Here’s what I found:

dom·i·na·trix [ dòmmə náytriks ] (plural dom·i·na·tri·ces, noun

Definition: dominant woman sadomasochist: a dominant woman partner in a sadomasochistic relationship

Lauryn Bruck at Media Matters for America reports in detail:

‘“During the December 4 broadcast of The Savage Nation, host Michael Savage discussed a New York Post article that reported allegations that ‘[a]n attorney at one of New York City's most prestigious law firms -- who had a secret passion for S&M -- was shot to death by a rival for the affections of a brilliant Ivy League stunner who moonlights as a dominatrix.’ Savage said: ‘When I was a kid, we didn't need to go to a dominatrix; all we had to do is argue with our mothers." Savage later said: ‘I don't understand that part of it. I truly don't understand it because any heterosexual woman today over the age of 25 who grew up in America is basically a dominatrix. You ask any heterosexual guy. Within a short period of time -- what do you think it's going to last? Ehhh -- 90 days and after that you're living with a dominatrix anyway, so what's the difference?’”

“Savage continued:

“Why do they have to go to a professional? What does a professional dominatrix do that an ordinary woman doesn't do in America today? Half the women look like post-op transvestites to begin with, trying to look like they're gay or keeping up with the mores of the society. You ever see what they look like? They thin themselves down, they're on some kind of diet pill. The lipstick looks like it was applied by, what's her name, Joan Rivers when she was high. They all have a mouth on them, and the guy is, like, pushed into the background. It's any wonder I'm in talk radio.

“Talk Radio Network, which syndicates Savage's show, claims that Savage is heard on more than 350 radio stations. The Savage Nation reaches at least 8.25 million listeners each week, according to Talkers Magazine, making it one of the most listened-to talk radio shows in the nation, behind only The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Sean Hannity Show.

“From the December 4 broadcast of Talk Radio Network's The Savage Nation:

‘“SAVAGE: ‘Lawyer slain by S&M madman obsessed with victim's whip mistress girlfriend.’ That's not a bad story. ‘An attorney at one of New York City's most prestigious law firms -- who had a secret passion for S&M -- was shot to death by a rival for the affections of a brilliant Ivy League stunner who moonlights as a dominatrix.’ Where did this all come from, a dominatrix? When did that -- when did that come up in America, dominatrix? I mean, I could say a few words about it. “SAVAGE: Then we got into the dominatrix issue. I don't understand that part of it. I truly don't understand it because any heterosexual woman today over the age of 25 who grew up in America is basically a dominatrix. You ask any heterosexual guy. With creeps like Savage speaking to a radio audience of millions, one has to wonder if there’s a safe place for a woman anywhere in today’s culture.

Rev. Wright and Trinity UCC's Repeated Violations of Tax Law Provision 501(c)(3)

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s return to the headlines today reminds me of how Trinity UCC violated tax law provision Section 501(c)(3) during the Democratic primary.

Section 501(c)(3) grants exemption from the federal income tax to non-profit organizations. Churches automatically acquire 501(c)(3) status upon filing of proper organizational documents.

Organizations with this classification are prohibited from conducting political campaign activities to influence elections to public office.

Yet Rev. Wright actively campaigned from Trinity’s pulpit on behalf of Barack Obama while heaping racist and misogynistic scorn on his leading opponent Hillary Clinton (watch video). After Wright retired, his successor, Rev. Otis Moss III, applauded a similar performance by Father Pfleger who brought the house down at Trinity by preaching even more vicious mockery and scorn against Clinton (watch video).

Both Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary and John McCain in the general election were forbidden by the Obama camp, the DNC, and their media allies to even mention the trash talk from Trinity’s pulpit or to suggest the church had forfeited its tax exempt status by its political activities.

Yesterday, Dec. 7, Rev. Wright returned to Trinity to preach for the first time since his retirement. The Christian Post’s Jennifer Riley reports that Rev. Wright did not steer clear of politics:

“Reflecting on the Christmas season, Wright gave a message in which he cited the story of Mary and the angel Gabriel, who told her she would bear a child to be the son of God. Wright compared Mary’s disbelief to similar doubts by some about the future of Trinity Church after his retirement and the likelihood of electing the first black U.S. president.

“Our legitimate questions tend to be asked from the vantage point of limited horizons,” said Wright. “Mary had a limited horizon. She couldn’t see how it was possible.”

Riley also reported:

“During the Sunday services (three were held), Wright also defended his right as a preacher to critique the government, pointing out that the biblical figure Luke had criticized the Roman government.

‘“Any preacher who dares to point out the simple ugly facts found in every field imaginable is demonized as volatile, controversial, incendiary, inflammatory, anti-American and radical,’ Wright complained.”’

That generality is false, of course. Ministers of both black and white churches avoid breaking the law by not supporting candidates for public office while regularly speaking out on behalf of social justice issues. For example, the congregation where I was a member at the time almost unanimously signed a petition opposing the invasion of Iraq.

I continue to wonder, though, why no one has called Trinity UCC to account for violating tax law provision Section 501(c)(3).

Does anyone out there have the answer?

Shushing Obama’s Howling Extreme Left-wing Critics

Update: David Sirota at Open Left responds to Steve Hildebrand’s post (see below) by defending the faux progressives in the Democratic Party who - having nothing better to do with their time - have been spewing more venom at the Clintons and others chosen by President-Elect Obama for cabinet posts and staff assignments.

Sirota lost me in the opening lines of his rant by his use of the word f***k, an old English derivative that literally means rape. I’ve been on a campaign lately to ban that offensive term from online discourse. We don’t need to encourage the depraved likes of Obama’s speech writer, Jon Favreau.

The Onion video portraying the pathetic lot of Obama’s extreme left supporters with nothing to do after their idol’s win is more an accurate portrayal of reality than satire. However, the sufferers of post-partisan depression were soon aroused from their lethargy by Obama’s cabinet and staff appointments; witness the upsurge of Hillary-hatred evoked since the NY senator’s name was first mentioned as the pick for secretary of state.

It’s become necessary of late for Steve Hildebrand, who served as the Obama campaign’s national deputy campaign manager, to shush legions of faux-progressives now feeling disenfranchised by President-Elect Obama’s pragmatism.

Hildebrand writes:

“Now comes the hard part - assuming the presidency at a time when there are more major problems facing our country and the world than at the beginning of any administration. Our economy is in shambles, affecting people at every income level. Nearly 500,000 jobs were lost during November alone. Retirement and investment accounts were shattered as the Stock Market dropped by historic proportions. Record numbers of families are being forced from their homes. Banks are hardly making loans to anyone right now. Auto manufactures and auto dealers have seen their sales drop between 30 and 40 percent.

“We have a war with Iraq that needs an exit strategy and attention by our new president and his foreign policy team. There is unrest with Iran, Pakistan, North Korea and a host of other countries. We desperately need to repair our Nation's reputation around the world. And we need to do all we can to protect our soldiers overseas and our people here at home.

“Nearly fifty million Americans have no health insurance, left vulnerable and one catastrophe away from bankruptcy or worse yet, death. This number will increase if we see unemployment continue to grow.

“Every day that goes by, where the U.S. and other countries fail to stop the irreparable damage of global warming, is a day closer to changes in climate that we may never gain back.

“I could go on and on. The point I'm making here is that our new president, the Congress and all Americans must come together to solve these problems. This is not a time for the left wing of our Party to draw conclusions about the Cabinet and White House appointments that President-Elect Obama is making. Some believe the appointments generally aren't progressive enough. Having worked with former Senator Obama for the last two years, I can tell you, that isn't the way he thinks and it's not likely the way he will lead. The problems I mentioned above and the many I didn't, suggest that our president surround himself with the most qualified people to address these challenges. After all, he was elected to be the president of all the people - not just those on the left.

“As a liberal member of our Party, I hope and expect our new president to address those issues that will benefit the vast majority of Americans first and foremost. That's his job. Over time, there will be many, many issues that come before him. But first let's get our economy moving, bring our troops home safely, fix health care, end climate change and restore our place in the world. What a great president Barack Obama will be if he can work with Congress and the American people to make great strides in these very difficult times.”

Unfortunately Hildebrand’s expectation that Obama’s so-called liberal critics, primarily youthful online operatives noted for sexism and misogyny, will grow up in time to support policies that benefit the common good is not likely to be met.

Former Secretaries of State Shultz, Baker, Christopher, Albright, and Powell Advise Hillary Clinton

When Times editorial writer Marjorie Miller asked five former secretaries of state what advice they had for Hillary Clinton in her new job, James Baker III, who served as secretary of state under George H.W. Bush, found it necessary to explain to Clinton how she will be expected to relate to the president. At his paternalistic best, Mr. Baker said Clinton should present herself as Obama’s clone in public, although she will be permitted to express any disagreements with him privately.

Baker is actually echoing any number of pundits who insult both Obama and Clinton by suggesting the president-elect and his newly appointed secretary of state lack the maturity to engage in a mutually respectful professional relationship that would foster the frank exchange of ideas and offer the opportunity to privately explore differences in critical areas of foreign policy.

Miller introduces the advice proferred by the five former secretaries of state by summarizing the problems Clinton faces when she assumes her new role:

“Hillary Rodham Clinton will have no shortage of issues to take on as secretary of State. She steps into the job amid a global economic meltdown and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. On top of that, she must address the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, and the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while managing complex relations with Russia and China. And there are the perennial issues of hunger and disease in Africa, drugs in Latin America and the nuclear threat worldwide. How can one person manage it all?”

Are People Healthier in Progressive States Like Minnesota?

Well it’s no wonder Minnesota made the top five healthiest states in a recent study: what germ could survive a winter up here in the rugged land of the Vikings?

It’s also true that Minnesota is a very progressive and humanitarian state. And it’s a known fact that when all people are given equal opportunity - meaning no discrimination based on gender, sexual preference, race, religion, or ethnic background - the body politic thrives and prospers.

Whether or not climate and/or a humanitarian ethos have anything to do with it, northern states do apparently beat out the south when it comes to health. Forbes reports that Vermont is listed as the healthiest state for the second consecutive year along with New Hampshire, Utah, and Minnesota. Hawaii is the southern exception among the top five.

The five unhealthiest states include Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

The study cited by Forbes focuses on four key areas: personal behaviors, community and environment, public and health policy, and clinical care. It is meant to highlight the successes and failures of each state and the nation so Americans can live longer, healthier lives.

The Forbes article continues:

“But poor health isn't limited to the country's southernmost states. America's health overall failed to improve for the fourth year in a row. Four years of stagnation stands in contrast to the 1990s when Americans' health climbed at an average rate of 1.5%. Obesity is one culprit. It has skyrocketed 127% since the 1990s, from 11.6% of the population to 26.3%, according to the study. Obesity increases the risk for diseases such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer.

“Worrisome still, is the growing number of uninsured Americans. Today, 45.7 million Americans are uninsured, an increase of 16% over 1990 levels.”

“This Homeland Is As Beautiful As The Homeland Of Our Childhood”

It’s been my pleasure in recent weeks to hear from several friends and acquaintances who have found the ancient Buddhist prayer in the upper right hand corner of Katalusis to be helpful in getting through these difficult times.

I’ve included this revised version of the “loving kindness” prayer in my morning ritual of journaling, reading spiritual writings, and several minutes of meditation for some time now.

The roots of my faith are in Christianity, but as I’ve matured I’ve gladly extended branches to many other traditions. It’s my belief that if we are ever to know world peace, we must learn to transcend religious differences. My faith continues to be deepened and enriched by the insights of others from around the globe.

For spiritual nourishment, I’m currently re-reading Thich Nhat Hanh’s The Miracle of Mindfulness. This morning between recording my dreams from the night in my daily journal and a short period of meditation, I read TNH’s instructions for practicing a full day of mindfulness at least once a week.

I love the notion of doing simple household tasks “slowly and evenly without reluctance,” becoming one with our work while dusting the book shelves, freshening a bouquet of flowers, or preparing a meal.

Being mindful, I’ve learned, means being fully awake and alive in the present moment instead of chronically brooding over the past or fretting about the future.

The eternal now is a good place to be.
