John Edwards Makes First Public Appearance Since Confessing Affair

Posting on John Edwards’ confession of his affair with Rielle Hunter last August, I reminded readers of the big splash Edwards made in May with his carefully staged endorsement of Obama and provided a little background information:

“On May 13, Hillary Clinton won a landslide victory in the West Virginia primary, propelled mainly by working class voters. The breaking news the next day was the endorsement of Barack Obama by former candidate John Edwards at a campaign event scheduled that evening, obviously designed to upstage Clinton’s win.”

CNN’s Alexander Mooney reported minutes earlier today that Edwards will soon be making his first public appearance since the above confession about three months ago.

Edwards will be speaking at Indiana University, and according to Mooney: “The speech Tuesday night appears designed not to make a political splash -- no reporters or cameras are allowed in the room. But by all outward appearances, it is an attempt by Edwards to dip his foot back into the political waters after a three-month hiatus.”
