Hillary Clinton: “No Way, No How, No Mccain-Palin”

Sen. Hillary Clinton appears to be adopting the same strategy toward Sarah Palin that I and several other online Clinton supporters have chosen. She’s expressing policy disagreements with Palin without joining the media and Obama’s netroots surrogates in their misogynous efforts to destroy John McCain’s socially conservative running mate. Having endured the Left’s wrath throughout the Democratic primary, Sen. Clinton isn’t likely to join forces with them to assault another woman.

The Washington Post’s Anne Kornblut reports:

“Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday night put out just her second statement mentioning Gov. Sarah Palin -- but continued to hold back from the harshest attacks.

‘"The two party conventions showcased vastly different directions for our country. Senator Obama and Senator Biden offered the new ideas and positive change America needs and deserves after eight years of failed Republican leadership. Senator McCain and Governor Palin do not,’ Clinton said.

‘“After listening to all the speeches this week, I heard nothing that suggests the Republicans are ready to fix the economy for middle class families, provide quality affordable health care for all Americans, guarantee equal pay for equal work for women, restore our nation's leadership in a complex world or tackle the myriad of challenges our country faces. So, to slightly amend my comments from Denver: NO WAY, NO HOW, NO McCAIN-PALIN.’

'“Clinton has been exceptionally quiet since the selection of just the second female vice presidential nominee in history. With some of her supporters anxiously hoping Clinton will step up to push Palin back, she is scheduled to make stops in central Florida on Monday on Sen. Barack Obama's behalf. But the trip is not, according to people in both camps, designed as a direct response to Palin. An Obama aide said the trip was 'in the works for weeks' and two Clinton advisers said she will continue to focus on issues, such as the economy.

'“If Clinton does elaborate on her Palin remarks -- either this weekend, when she also has public appearances, or on Monday -- it will be to make a larger point about McCain, not to burrow down into a debate over feminism, sexism or women in politics, advisers said."'
