Watch Out, Hillary! Samantha Power to Review State Department per Obama Transition Team

During the Democratic primary Samantha Power resigned as a senior Obama adviser after publicly calling Hillary Clinton a monster. Getty Images.

The Politico staff puts it this way:

“Samantha Power, the foreign-policy scholar who was banished from the Obama campaign for a careless comment about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) during the Democratic primaries, is working on President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team studying State Department personnel, operations and policy.

“That’s potentially a little awkward because Clinton is scheduled to be designated Obama’s secretary of state early next week.

‘“When Power resigned March 7 as a senior foreign policy adviser to the campaign, she said in a statement: ‘I made inexcusable remarks that are at marked variance from my oft-stated admiration for Senator Clinton and from the spirit, tenor, and purpose of the Obama campaign.’

One of Power’s “inexcusable remarks” involved labeling Sen. Clinton a “monster.” As I recall demented readers at Huffpo piled on in the comments section proclaiming their agreement with the catty Power.

We’ve noticed here at Katalusis that President-elect Obama’s imminent appointment of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State has resulted in yet another outbreak of hate-mongering from the extreme left, led by the likes of Arianna Huffington, Maureen Dowd, and Christopher Hitchens. And this is the crew who claims it's Hillary who creates the drama?

I suspect the usual Hillary-haters, including Obama’s thousands of online shock troops, yanked Obama’s leash sufficiently to get Power a slot on the transition team to review the state department. It figures. I’m thinking Hillary Clinton had better review the situation carefully before signing on to what might potentially become a nest of vipers.

  1. I didn't realize until recently that Huffington's vitrol against both Clintons goes back to at least 1997, when she had a website called Resignation.com

  2. Wow, Alessandro, I just checked out Resignation.com and read Arianna's post attempting to pressure Bill Clinton to resign from office. But in those days, wasn't Arianna a right wing extremist? I thought it was just in recent years that she lunged to the left. Nevertheless, as you point out, she still hates the Clintons. It's scary that Arianna now has so much influence as a so-called media guru.
