The Mountain State Moves Hillary

At 10 p.m. Central, with nearly 70% of the West Virginia vote counted, Hillary Clinton was ahead of Barack Obama 66% to 27% - she was maintaining a 39-point lead.

In her victory speech, Clinton said to loud cheers from the crowd, “The Bible says faith can move mountains; tonight, the Mountain State moved me.”

Drawing on her faith in God, herself, her family, her campaign, and the American people, Hillary once again defied the pundits who have been trying to count her out and vowed to stay in the race until every eligible voter in the Democratic primary has had a chance to vote.

The pundits have been trying to tell Hillary it's over since the Indiana and North Carolina primaries. Her win tonight no doubt jarred a few sensibilities. I checked in at several major online news sources and couldn’t help noticing how subdued most of the headlines were.

In a demonstration of unrivaled pettiness, the Huffington Post’s banner headline read: “BUSH: I GAVE UP GOLF IN 2003 OUT OF RESPECT FOR U.S. SOLDIERS KILLED IN THE WAR....”

Below a photo of Bush holding a golf club, a headline in smaller letters read: “Meanwhile... Clinton Wins West Virginia... Obama Focuses On November... The Bottom Line: Clinton's Win "Doesn't Really Matter"...

Here’s some breaking news for all the pundits, including those at the Huffington Post, who have counted Hillary out time and again: West Virginia’s votes matter in our democratic nation, and neither they nor the Obama team and all of his supporters can alter that reality.

Thanks to West Virginia, Hillary did indeed win big tonight!
