Obama Steps from Comedy Skit onto the World Stage

I came across an interesting reader’s comment, posted by “Jr.” while scanning a message board at the Caucus (NYTimes) a few minutes ago. Jr. was responding to a humorous video about Barack Obama by connecting its content to an incident that arose in the news this week.

First, I’ll give you the background from the network news. It began with a speech President Bush made to the Knesset during a visit to Israel. After mentioning Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, Bush said: "Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along."

Bush went on to say, "We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said. "As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement.'"

Positioning himself as the Democratic candidate, even though the race is yet undecided, Obama immediately assumed he was the target of Bush’s criticism and personally led a counterattack on both Bush and John McCain:

In the meantime, our friend Jr. had just viewed a humorous video over at the Caucus that predicted what the world would be like in 2015 with Obama as commander in chief. A man awakening from a seven-year coma realizes that Obama is indeed the second coming of Christ.

Jr. responds:

“That first video is perfect, Obama think hes all that. He even thought Bush was talking about him in Israel. Bush was clearly talking about a politician thats actually done something in this avenue, maybe Jimmie Carter?? Yea this is who he was talking about, Obama looks like a fathead now that is too conceited. Obama isnt even a nominee yet, and thinks he has foreign policy issues already gimme a break, is this the best we can do?? I dont think so, Obama hasnt even gotten as many votes as Hillary let alone won anything yet. What a terrible move for Obama to address that comment like it was towards him. How conceited can you be.. Well I think this video shows how much of that he is. THank you for a perfect video that ties Obama to being the elite, when hes nothing but a senator!!!”

I agree with Jr. that even though Barack Obama is thought to be the Messiah by his followers, he ought to restrain himself from assuming the role of the nominee until he has officially been declared the winner of the Democratic primary. After all, Jesus himself exemplified the virtue of humility.
