Here’s an excerpt from the Caucus (NY Times) following the Obama-Biden event in Springfield. Kate Seelye writes:
3:45 p.m. Gaffe Riot: Our colleague John M. Broder sends this dispatch from Springfield: Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was the prospect of sharing a stage with the voluble Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., but the normally silver-tongued Senator Barack Obama fumbled his introduction of his new running mate.
As he wrapped up his podium-pounding peroration, Mr. Obama turned and said, “So let me introduce to you, the next president, the next vice president of the United States of America - Joe Biden.”
Mr. Biden returned the favor near the end of his own remarks. He paid tribute to “the next president of the United States - Barack America!”
The crowd stepped in to help him out, chanting “O-ba-ma! O-ba-ma!” Mr. Biden spoke on undaunted.
